I had the opportunity to interview Roscoe Dash about two months ago. We spoke about his whereabouts in the last couple of years and the new music he was working on for his new project. This interview definitely gave me a new perspective on Roscoe Dash as an artist but also Roscoe Dash the person. Check out Part 1 of this interview below.
He is also on his Where's Roscoe?: Fcuk Yo Party Season 2 Tour [dates below]
Q: How does it feel to know you made such a huge impact on
the Hip-Hop game at such a young age?
Because I remember my freshman year of college all the DJs were playing
your music.
A: Well first thank you for that. It feels great anytime you have an
accomplishment so I never really put a timeline on anything. I don’t really put a timeline on my music
either because it takes you back to the fun times in your life. So that is what
my motive is: I try to have fun making music and in-turn allow other people to
have fun through the music as well.
Q: What was the first expensive thing you bought?
A: Um, I would have to say my car. I went and got a M5 BMW and there was only
like 100 or 150 of them in the world and I actually bought it for my mom. We had matching beamers for like a year and a
half.
Q: I’ve listened to
The Glitch and you have a lot of notable names on here like Curren$y, Waka
Flocka, Cyhi da Prince, and Juvenile. So how do you go about getting those
features?
A: It depends. With
different people have I different relationships with, so Waka and me started
around the same time and from around the same area and that’s actually one of
my friends. So every time I see him it’s
the same situation. So for people like
him it’s just a phone call. Other times
I might walk in on someone’s session or they might walk in on mine…it’s all
about vibes.
Q: Are you nervous about coming back out after you took this
break from music? Do you regret taking
that break?
A: I wouldn’t say I’m
nervous. I would say more like…I have really bad anxiety, I’m a perfectionist. I have really bad anxiety when it comes to
wanting to fulfill what my vision is because my vision changes so much. So I might have a song on my laptop that has
been there for a really long time and when I did it, it was done, and then I’ll
go back and mess with it some more.
Q: Music has changed so much since you’ve been out. Do you listen the radio to draw inspiration
from those artists? How does that go?
A: I don’t listen to
the radio that. I listen to XM more than
regular radio and even if with that it’s a hit or miss. There are more people
who are not as notable to the public that I actually enjoy more than mainstream
artists. For instance do you know the dude Belly who has a song with The
Weeknd?
Q: No I haven’t.
A: It’s one of those sleeper records and the guy has
actually has some bars. I’m a really big
fan on music as a whole and I grew up listening to Luther Vandross, Lauryn
Hill, just a different group of people.
Stay Tuned for Part II
